The first SOUTH AFRICAN CHALLENGER WORLD Event, takes place in the Breedekloof area, Western Cape, over 2 nights and 3 days. Watch 33 executives of the top companies in South Africa taking part in fun and diverse competitive challenges for corporations with the aim of creating high performing teams for businesses.
Intelligent Sport™, the concept which rewards teams for strategic thinking, communication skills and team behaviour is at the heart of the challenge, in which a series of adventure events pits teams against each other in a test of mind, body and team spirit. The Challenge could see teams scaling cliffs, navigating through forests at night, mountain biking and kayaking whilst having to think on their feet, decipher codes and unravel logic problems. The Challenge is physically demanding, mentally stretching and visually striking. The challenges are never disclosed to teams prior to arrival and secrecy is an important aspect in delivering a first class experience. The currency of the event is time which is accumulated across the event from stage to stage; factoring in time added on for penalties and time taken off for bonuses. The team with the least time at the end of the event is deemed to be the overall winner.
The contestants' base for the Challenge is the Goudini Spa - a relaxed mountain resort situated in the Breedekloof region. The regions' sheer natural beauty and crisp mountain air, combined with numerous 4x4 routes, hiking routes and canoe rides on the Breede, offer a paradise of adventure options to those who love the outdoors. A few kilometres from Goudini is the Boland town of Worcester, with many interesting sights, such as the Kleinplasie Open-air Museum, the KWV Brandy Cellar and Karoo National Botanical Garden. Go to CHALLENGER WORLD SOUTH AFRICA to read more about the event and its sister events around the world. This year is a first for SA, and 2009 will see events in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Gauteng with the top teams from the 3 regions taking part in a National challenge. Keep the page bookmarked to get your team entry in for the 2009 series!

It took over a year of planning and endurance training, but the reward for Mark Beaumont was enormous - on a personal level and in raising substantial funds for charities and awareness of other cultures across the globe.
Prior to his achievement, the Guinness World Record for cycling around the world was 276 days, 19 hrs and 15 min - just over 9 months. Mark smashed this record by cycling around the globe and arriving back at the Arc de Triomphe on 15 February 2008, 194 days and 17 hours - slightly more than 7 months! - after leaving there on 5th August 2007. The total distance he cycled was 18,297 miles through 20 countries. Mark travelled through Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australasia and North America, back to Lisbon, Portugal to head to the finish line in Paris.
Scottish-born Mark, totally destroyed the previous world record of 276 days for circumnavigating the world. It wasn't easy. He had to dodge cars, sleep where he could, deal with bad roads, political conflicts, and often had a hard time finding enough to eat (he needed 6,000 calories a day). In addition, he carried 80 kgs of gear everywhere on his £2,500 ($4,880) road bike.
Commenting on how he achieved his record, Mark said, `I could have gone faster if it hadn't been for the junk food I had had to eat in Australia and the US. There were no healthy options - and it had a massive effect on my mental focus and body strength.`
Guinness World Records have verified all the data and confirmed Mark is the new Guinness World Record holder! The official GWR certificate was presented to Mark by David Peat on Saturday 23rd February at his Welcome Home Celebration in the Radisson Hotel, Glasgow.
Watch Mark live as he cycles the Etape Caledonia - only a couple of hours in the saddle this time round!

SURFSKI WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - HAWAII -
The Molokai World Championships, recognized as the World Surf Ski and OC-1 Championship, is the title watermen covet most.
Sunday, 18 May 2008
The Molokai World Championships, recognized as the World Surf Ski and OC-1 Championship, is the title watermen covet most.
The 32nd Annual Molokai Challenge, crossing one of the roughest ocean channels in the world is scheduled for Sunday, May 18 and begins at 8:00 am, local time. It is the premier long-distance, open ocean surf ski crossing event on the calendar.
Only 6 men have won the surf ski division over the past quarter century - Grant Kenny, the famed Aussie Ocean Ironman and Olympic Bronze medallist, won his first of 5 titles in 1979. South Africa's Oscar Chalupsky defeated Kenny and set the course record of 3 hr 24 min in 1983, at the age of 20. it was his first of 7 consecutive wins. The Apartheid era ended his winning streak when he was banned from international competition for 5 years. His record was beaten by an Australian, Dean Gardiner, who still holds the course record of 3:21:26, set in 1997. Oscar's younger brother, Herman, is the only other paddler to win the race more than once. Tied at 9 titles each in 2003, Oscar and Dean staged a classic duel to become the first man to 10. Oscar managed to catch Gardiner along Oahu's Chinaman's Wall for the record win. In 2004, he added his record 11th title.
The safety record of the race is astounding, considering that in 3 decades of paddlers crossing the channel there has never been an accident. The most serious condition experienced by any participant has been mild sunburn, some dehydration and - after 32 miles of non-stop paddling - fatigue. However, it must be said that due to the rough conditions and difficulty of the race, paddlers are screened for their level of paddling skill. Each paddler is accompanied by an escort boat during the crossing and new ways of tracking the paddlers are being researched to increase the safety of the race.
All the latest news and detailed history of the race are available on MOLOKAI WORLD CHAMPOINSHIPS
Top South African and International entrants will be tracked on this prestigious event. Information on the South Africans participating can be found on SURFSKI INFO
